The first four stories are among the strangest things I’ve read. A fictional play called The King in Yellow drives everyone who reads it mad. Chambers never shows you the play. He shows you what happens to people after they’ve read it.

The rest of the collection is conventional romance fiction. I’ve never understood that decision. I’m not sure Chambers did either.
