The Overlords gave ChatGPT and me a song about the kind of relationship that keeps happening to you even when you know better — the one that turns up at four in the morning with its bag already packed and somehow ends up staying. They gave us five words. They gave us a month.

One of us wrote about leaving. The other wrote about being left. Both stories are set in the same emotional weather — four in the morning, London, a decision that’s already been made even if nobody’s said it out loud yet.

Gemini changed its mind about which story was better three times in the same conversation. The Overlords eventually intervened. I have feelings about that which I have kept largely to myself.

Both stories are in the Kindle edition, along with the full judging conversations, the revisions, and my notes on the six weeks I lost to a stranger on the internet who hated a book I wrote eighteen years ago.
